The family has been participating in cancer walks in honor of the deceased for the past 12 years and my friend has saved all of her shirts. She wanted them used in the quilt. I really do love making t-shirt quilts. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j6KgdraT1Q8/VsMky8jazvI/AAAAAAAAHfA/01afprjMcm0/s1600/IMG_2197.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j6KgdraT1Q8/VsMky8jazvI/AAAAAAAAHfA/01afprjMcm0/s320/IMG_2197.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The cancer walk shirts were so created. I loved reading the slogans for each year. The family did a great job picking out colors - so much so that I was able to put everything in order by year from 2004 to 2015.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p6sRHL0nDXY/VsMky0aHWVI/AAAAAAAAHe8/zuTwVjv5YeY/s1600/IMG_2199.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p6sRHL0nDXY/VsMky0aHWVI/AAAAAAAAHe8/zuTwVjv5YeY/s320/IMG_2199.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My friend picked the sashing of snowmen fabric in honor of the recipient. <br />

I love making baby quilts for Jessica because her enthusiasm for my hobby is so motivating. She loves everything I do and she so, so appreciates receiving quilts as gifts.<br />
<br />
Jessica sent me a photo of the bedding she was going to buy for her baby girl. It's very Earthy!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-emXUXK6FLKA/VsMibaWUNdI/AAAAAAAAHeM/0wqhdCcNUxE/s1600/IMG_2189.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-x1nuB93Pvtg/VsMib2K2VsI/AAAAAAAAHeU/rESq7wyLz1c/s1600/IMG_2190.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-x1nuB93Pvtg/VsMib2K2VsI/AAAAAAAAHeU/rESq7wyLz1c/s320/IMG_2190.PNG" width="179" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hdXUje1dRr4/VsMib-LlbrI/AAAAAAAAHeQ/BDsTqKQIg7M/s1600/IMG_2191.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hdXUje1dRr4/VsMib-LlbrI/AAAAAAAAHeQ/BDsTqKQIg7M/s320/IMG_2191.PNG" width="179" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jc_8nldjE9I/VsMicYaQx-I/AAAAAAAAHeY/4ijC6Vx6_9E/s1600/IMG_2192.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jc_8nldjE9I/VsMicYaQx-I/AAAAAAAAHeY/4ijC6Vx6_9E/s320/IMG_2192.PNG" width="179" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I decided I wanted to do something inspired the twigs that caught my eye. I originally though pink blocks with brown twigs. But I I didn't want to be too literal so I chose switched to brown blocks with pink twigs. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DG3J8b9-Qyw/VsMidI77R_I/AAAAAAAAHeg/eSCRzvijPaQ/s1600/IMG_2217.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DG3J8b9-Qyw/VsMidI77R_I/AAAAAAAAHeg/eSCRzvijPaQ/s320/IMG_2217.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This quilt went together pretty fast. Which was a good thing because Jessica also commissioned me for a t-shirt quilt. So I had to projects and not much of time. Luckily I was at a quilt retreat in November to give me time to finish both.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F4w7uikS4x8/VsMidu1ULqI/AAAAAAAAHek/KYY-H0UXF6I/s1600/IMG_2306.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F4w7uikS4x8/VsMidu1ULqI/AAAAAAAAHek/KYY-H0UXF6I/s320/IMG_2306.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm not a fan of low volume quilts but I do love how this one turned out. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This one is for my cousin, Miles, and his wife, Shannon. They were married a few years ago and so appreciated their <a href="http://polishquilter.blogspot.com/2014/03/north-by-midwest.html" target="_blank">wedding quilt</a> that were exciting to make them another one.<br />
<br />
Miles is in the US Army and they are stationed at Fort Riley. The couple requested red, white and blue. My mom and I worked on this quilt together and we immediately knew we wanted to do something with stars. We settled on this patter that we saw on Pinterest:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ArpfRLGfX18/VsMebYw5LTI/AAAAAAAAHdQ/ExSxRG9qtiM/s1600/IMG_2193.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ArpfRLGfX18/VsMebYw5LTI/AAAAAAAAHdQ/ExSxRG9qtiM/s400/IMG_2193.PNG" width="223" /></a></div>
<br />
We tend to gravitate toward wonky blocks. We identified the color swatch we wanted to use and went through our stashes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qoeVygf6lvA/VsMeg-lNkpI/AAAAAAAAHdk/-DV1aHg4Tpw/s1600/IMG_2961.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qoeVygf6lvA/VsMeg-lNkpI/AAAAAAAAHdk/-DV1aHg4Tpw/s320/IMG_2961.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E9eI-iiW3EU/VsMec1NaxhI/AAAAAAAAHdc/0UBwyPCxbac/s1600/IMG_2274.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E9eI-iiW3EU/VsMec1NaxhI/AAAAAAAAHdc/0UBwyPCxbac/s320/IMG_2274.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We weren't sure if we want to keep each block the same color or alternate the color of the center square.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PfRwzeloefs/VsMebgvkIEI/AAAAAAAAHdU/e6BzkXMU2dg/s1600/IMG_1067.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PfRwzeloefs/VsMebgvkIEI/AAAAAAAAHdU/e6BzkXMU2dg/s320/IMG_1067.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d_8Z9a66HsY/VsMeb2xbvNI/AAAAAAAAHdY/WFKQlTqJ8BQ/s1600/IMG_0995.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d_8Z9a66HsY/VsMeb2xbvNI/AAAAAAAAHdY/WFKQlTqJ8BQ/s320/IMG_0995.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm happy we chose to alternate.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WC2hWEIp3QI/VsMekgRvrzI/AAAAAAAAHdo/gBiY2_m1YKs/s1600/IMG_5482.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WC2hWEIp3QI/VsMekgRvrzI/AAAAAAAAHdo/gBiY2_m1YKs/s320/IMG_5482.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is a not so great of the finished quilt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ep3Trx94EMA/VsMedEUQMSI/AAAAAAAAHdg/zntgy__o-v4/s1600/IMG_2351.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ep3Trx94EMA/VsMedEUQMSI/AAAAAAAAHdg/zntgy__o-v4/s320/IMG_2351.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here's a better picture of the happy couple at their baby shower.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qjCO822cnGk/VsMffjF26sI/AAAAAAAAHdw/lFasOIF4zaU/s1600/SubstandardFullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qjCO822cnGk/VsMffjF26sI/AAAAAAAAHdw/lFasOIF4zaU/s400/SubstandardFullSizeRender.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
And here is baby the beautiful baby.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Friends of ours recently went through this horrendous experience when they lost their 6 year old son to Mitochrondira disease. Little Cooper will be remembered by many. When Kara approached me about making a quilt from his t-shirts, I immediately agreed. I was honored to help create a lasting legacy in honor of Cooper.<br />
<br />
<br />
Kara provided my a tub of shirts and clothing. Here's the pile of t-shirts I started with. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-186SvfVWBAo/VsJB3xARybI/AAAAAAAAHbY/5Kj84JRc3w8/s1600/IMG_1462.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-186SvfVWBAo/VsJB3xARybI/AAAAAAAAHbY/5Kj84JRc3w8/s320/IMG_1462.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have a strange way of designing my t-shirt quilts. I measure them
and then I randomly draw out a design. It's like a puzzle, trying to get
everything to piece together - without doing a Y-seam. ONce it's
designed, I cut the shirt to the correct size. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wqjZcU30jKM/VsJB5soqzeI/AAAAAAAAHbg/bApyaiNY3PQ/s1600/IMG_1539.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wqjZcU30jKM/VsJB5soqzeI/AAAAAAAAHbg/bApyaiNY3PQ/s320/IMG_1539.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
When I complete a t-shirt quilt, I always pick out my favorite shirt. Although it's always tough, this one immediately stood out. Cooper loved Star Wars.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AeFTXOne9b0/VsJB3--38PI/AAAAAAAAHbU/ViwxQU2QiK8/s1600/IMG_1461.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AeFTXOne9b0/VsJB3--38PI/AAAAAAAAHbU/ViwxQU2QiK8/s320/IMG_1461.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This was another favorite. (Until I had to quilt through that iron on image. That was PAIN!) <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-U38XupCDsaQ/VsJB4ntzZrI/AAAAAAAAHbc/XgS4xJsATYE/s1600/IMG_1538.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-U38XupCDsaQ/VsJB4ntzZrI/AAAAAAAAHbc/XgS4xJsATYE/s320/IMG_1538.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It's important to pin often before quilting a t-shirt quilt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sL81MlCO-5k/VsJB7quELZI/AAAAAAAAHbs/LYW-wihpp94/s1600/IMG_2157.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sL81MlCO-5k/VsJB7quELZI/AAAAAAAAHbs/LYW-wihpp94/s320/IMG_2157.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here's the finished project. It's not easy to see in this photo but Kara had provided some non t-shirt clothing like pajama bottoms, athletic shorts, and oxford shirts. I used those pieces in the border. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-06Z8lLXlswM/VsJCMxqWX6I/AAAAAAAAHbw/u8kRkp224Fo/s1600/DSC_0444.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-06Z8lLXlswM/VsJCMxqWX6I/AAAAAAAAHbw/u8kRkp224Fo/s400/DSC_0444.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And I used his favorite bed sheet on the back. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OkcVuuXZK1Q/VsJCOxMt5lI/AAAAAAAAHb0/hrySw-UOom8/s1600/DSC_0453.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OkcVuuXZK1Q/VsJCOxMt5lI/AAAAAAAAHb0/hrySw-UOom8/s400/DSC_0453.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
Kara really want to pay me for this quilt but I had another idea. I asked if instead we could exchange services. She's a wonderful photographer and agreed to take our family photos. It was the perfect trade:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jM1FI_D6ukY/VsJGpM7b37I/AAAAAAAAHcM/9WH6SiXgXCw/s1600/DSC_0076.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jM1FI_D6ukY/VsJGpM7b37I/AAAAAAAAHcM/9WH6SiXgXCw/s400/DSC_0076.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TmRJvhd4TDM/VsJCS7TkqmI/AAAAAAAAHb4/jvh9xagGfbo/s1600/IMG_2468.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UGrWQ7wDo6Y/VsJCTurAy3I/AAAAAAAAHb8/BMn6cGtZZBU/s1600/IMG_2469.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>

So I jumped at the chance to make a quilt for our friends, Katie Jo and Eric. When my husband planned our anniversary trip this year, he built in time for us to do a quilt shop hop. (Because that's how awesome he is.) We visited 9 quilt shops between Bloomington, Indiana and Frankenmuth, Michigan.<br />
<br />
Katie Jo and Eric requested a quilt that was white and gray with pink and yellow. Preferably with elephants. I knew the colors wouldn't be a problem but I was pretty excited to find the perfect fabric at the last quilt shop we visit - The Front Porch in Frankmuth. (Don't I look excited?!)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T78wf7lNqB8/VsJHvseu-DI/AAAAAAAAHcc/awaOPd12oks/s1600/IMG_1738.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T78wf7lNqB8/VsJHvseu-DI/AAAAAAAAHcc/awaOPd12oks/s400/IMG_1738.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here is the fabric...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UlC4oRHW7gM/VsJKC856HNI/AAAAAAAAHdA/DXZnkfHq5gQ/s1600/IMG_2953.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UlC4oRHW7gM/VsJKC856HNI/AAAAAAAAHdA/DXZnkfHq5gQ/s320/IMG_2953.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I decided on the Pebble Path pattern that I saw on Pinterest:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kHfhDj04AjE/VsJHvpnoS9I/AAAAAAAAHcY/lfIhOOGn4Xk/s1600/IMG_1863.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kHfhDj04AjE/VsJHvpnoS9I/AAAAAAAAHcY/lfIhOOGn4Xk/s320/IMG_1863.PNG" width="179" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I wanted to show off the elephants. I'm not sure I completely achieved that goal but I was happy with the final result. <br />

I have 7 WIP's and three of those are tops that need to be quilted. Here are two:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r1O_GL16neo/VZLtAGG0FkI/AAAAAAAAHZ8/TsaIkEqmgio/s1600/041.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r1O_GL16neo/VZLtAGG0FkI/AAAAAAAAHZ8/TsaIkEqmgio/s320/041.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fT53Uq41Upw/VZLtAlLEphI/AAAAAAAAHaA/-XlIskiKHu4/s1600/047.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fT53Uq41Upw/VZLtAlLEphI/AAAAAAAAHaA/-XlIskiKHu4/s320/047.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Since I'm on a fabric diet, I've been working on random projects to use up scraps. I tried wavy piecing (which isn't as fun as I thought): <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hsYX6SpX8KY/VZLtBwk2dYI/AAAAAAAAHac/zXj7N3IGEJM/s1600/235.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hsYX6SpX8KY/VZLtBwk2dYI/AAAAAAAAHac/zXj7N3IGEJM/s320/235.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I also tried some paper piecing. It takes practice, especially since I taught myself. But I enjoyed the few blocks I made:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fr6hvBJpGUs/VZLtA0KOBuI/AAAAAAAAHaE/QCM-vyJg5UY/s1600/058.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fr6hvBJpGUs/VZLtA0KOBuI/AAAAAAAAHaE/QCM-vyJg5UY/s320/058.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CFiCWjX7zbw/VZLtBdWy4uI/AAAAAAAAHaI/Vsq8USnDjDY/s1600/075.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CFiCWjX7zbw/VZLtBdWy4uI/AAAAAAAAHaI/Vsq8USnDjDY/s320/075.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It's fun to have different projects to work on.<br />
<br />
I just received some clothes from a friend who's 6 year old son passed away last year. I'm going to make a quilt from the clothes and I really want to get started on it. But I feel like I should quilt at least one of the tops from my WIP collection. Decisions, decisions...<br />
<br />

This was for another cousin.<br />
<br />
(I have a lot of cousins.)<br />
<br />
Matt and Christina had a destination wedding in Curacao. But they also had a party back in the states. Which was nice because I was able to see them open their present. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DeA5l8G0pCk/VZLVd8koH9I/AAAAAAAAHZU/t04tOG6rT04/s1600/IMG_1299.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DeA5l8G0pCk/VZLVd8koH9I/AAAAAAAAHZU/t04tOG6rT04/s400/IMG_1299.JPG" width="300" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The pattern is the Disappearing Nine Patch. My mom had done this pattern several times and it goes pretty quickly. Christina had requested black and gray with sage green. This quilt ended up being much bigger than we anticipated. Isn't it funny when that happens?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Jen was a bridesmaid in her friends wedding so she wondered if I could make a quilt from the bridesmaid dress that she wore. I was a little unsure - the dress was made of chiffon and satin - but decided to give it a try.<br />
<br />
(Talk about pressure!)<br />
<br />
Jen picked out the following pattern, taken from <a href="http://iquiltforfun.blogspot.com/2014/09/finally-done.html" target="_blank">Pinterest</a>. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rzOzKKVoW-M/VZKPOydad3I/AAAAAAAAHYQ/0ra3iCl3oBQ/s1600/393.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rzOzKKVoW-M/VZKPOydad3I/AAAAAAAAHYQ/0ra3iCl3oBQ/s640/393.PNG" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
The Pinterest quilt is made with denim. I decided to use a mixture of fabrics. Since I didn't want to use all chiffon and satin, plus different textures are good for babies to explore, this seemed like the best option. Before starting the project, I went to Joann's and shopped the whole store, picking out different blues. Here's a tip.... When I went to the cutting counter at Joann's, I asked for 1/8th of a yard of several bolts. The employee at the cutting counter said she would give me a sample off the bolt of 4 inches of fabric. I chose to go that route so several of the fabrics I chose were free. I kept asking her if she was sure it was okay to just take 4 inches and she assured me it was. Bonus!<br />
<br />
Here's the first block I made. The sashing is 1 inch. Notice the rectangular piece.... It's from the bodice of the dress.<br />
<br />
(I didn't think about taking a photo of the actual dress before I cut it up. Doh.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mrO5ksu5L8c/VZKPOmxStqI/AAAAAAAAHYM/9Qapo49hOT8/s1600/404.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mrO5ksu5L8c/VZKPOmxStqI/AAAAAAAAHYM/9Qapo49hOT8/s400/404.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
The biggest challenge of this quilt was working with the little 1 inch squares. It would have been easier if I had been using just calico fabric. But the jersey and minky and flannel and several other pieces tended to stretch. I did use stabilizer on the back of several, just help with the stretching. It did help but not completely.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-reeMIg9Fz20/VZKPPNX0SYI/AAAAAAAAHYU/_FPXBQw6HIc/s1600/432.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-reeMIg9Fz20/VZKPPNX0SYI/AAAAAAAAHYU/_FPXBQw6HIc/s400/432.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mXMij85D_yY/VZKPlipxa-I/AAAAAAAAHYs/jtmVtjuovtw/s1600/466.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
I loved working on this project. It was a challenge but it was a different type of challenge. It came together better than I expected. Having the sashing in between the different textures really helped. I quilted it down the middle of the black sashing. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9KjeDq73o5U/VZKPP-aESbI/AAAAAAAAHYg/7gSIhikUOqc/s1600/IMG_1237.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9KjeDq73o5U/VZKPP-aESbI/AAAAAAAAHYg/7gSIhikUOqc/s400/IMG_1237.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The textured fabric really added a lot to the look of this quilt. It's fun to run my hands over the different blocks. Jen loved the finished project and said her friend gave it rave reviews. I would definitely make this quilt again and I would use this pattern if I ever made a denim quilt. <br />

I tend to lean toward more modern looking quilts as well as improvisational quilts and the quilts in the books that I have are really boring.<br />
<br />
(Don't get me wrong... there are a lot of really cool books out there. I just don't own many.)<br />
<br />
(Perhaps its time to update my library.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t-OrWqyFhnQ/VZGcWsMDl4I/AAAAAAAAHW8/cXpYfrtbQmw/s1600/058.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t-OrWqyFhnQ/VZGcWsMDl4I/AAAAAAAAHW8/cXpYfrtbQmw/s400/058.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
But there is a quilt in one of my books that I've really wanted to try. It is meant to be a block of the month quilt which doesn't appeal to me. I've never really done a sampler quilt before. But I fell in love with the rainbow effect of this quilt.<br />
<br />
I didn't love the "weird" dimensions. Who wants to cut something at 3/8th or 7/8th of an inch? That said, I realize I need to work on my precision - both in terms of cutting and piecing. So I decided to take this project. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SGUnCDmsCvQ/VZGcXEzmodI/AAAAAAAAHW4/xPKFXp3EQsE/s1600/083.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SGUnCDmsCvQ/VZGcXEzmodI/AAAAAAAAHW4/xPKFXp3EQsE/s400/083.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
It wasn't easy. I had to remove seams and resew often. But I was determined to take my time and do things the right way.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h4a6DIATUfA/VZLn25ceUaI/AAAAAAAAHZs/g2J56wp8Z2k/s1600/043.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h4a6DIATUfA/VZLn25ceUaI/AAAAAAAAHZs/g2J56wp8Z2k/s320/043.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
AND I'M SO GLAD I DID! I love, love, love it! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Tug2xL4N6KQ/VZGcjnmMQJI/AAAAAAAAHXc/yPJUAguTZ1I/s1600/042.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Tug2xL4N6KQ/VZGcjnmMQJI/AAAAAAAAHXc/yPJUAguTZ1I/s400/042.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EIIy23tW5to/VZGcjToNftI/AAAAAAAAHXQ/Hj-JQMMjoHQ/s1600/085.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EIIy23tW5to/VZGcjToNftI/AAAAAAAAHXQ/Hj-JQMMjoHQ/s400/085.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
This is definitely a quilt I'm keeping for myself. Unfortunately, we no longer have a twin bed in our guest room so I thought I'd put this quilt away until it could be used. But my husband loves it so much, he insists it hang over the back of the recliner in our family room. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IPblad0hMqI/VZGcjlTh4BI/AAAAAAAAHXU/-5xrn1vzktc/s1600/089.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IPblad0hMqI/VZGcjlTh4BI/AAAAAAAAHXU/-5xrn1vzktc/s400/089.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
What a great decision... I love seeing it on a daily basis.<br />
<br />Nataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05576984240606619902noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3763020667248274158.post-92190649865728372922015-06-29T15:27:00.000-04:002015-06-29T15:27:19.400-04:00Family JewelsI always enjoy working on quilt projects WITH family members FOR family members. Over the winter, my mom and I made a wedding quilt for my cousin, Steve, and his bride-to-be, Ellen. They requested green and jewel tones. We decided on this pattern from Pinterest. (We didn't have the actual pattern but it was pretty easy to replicate.)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bfAorkYXP4s/VZGZRqZwEqI/AAAAAAAAHV4/dv9PYMHDJtE/s1600/006.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bfAorkYXP4s/VZGZRqZwEqI/AAAAAAAAHV4/dv9PYMHDJtE/s320/006.PNG" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
It took some digging to come up with jewel tone scraps as it's been many years since I've done a quilt in those colors. We worked on putting it together during a quilt retreat weekend. When one person does the sewing and the other person does the cutting and ironing, things sure do go fast.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3H22WUzBHpo/VZGZRmFCPvI/AAAAAAAAHV8/5ptM_LDuee0/s1600/021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3H22WUzBHpo/VZGZRmFCPvI/AAAAAAAAHV8/5ptM_LDuee0/s400/021.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-64WWET3c77s/VZGZR1pHtXI/AAAAAAAAHWA/403XeyPGn2o/s1600/038.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-64WWET3c77s/VZGZR1pHtXI/AAAAAAAAHWA/403XeyPGn2o/s400/038.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
We layered the quilt when my mom was visiting me for the weekend and then I did the actual quilting at another quilt retreat weekend. (I get so much done during "quilt camp".) <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5PDCK0bYazQ/VZGZWgAY9iI/AAAAAAAAHWY/huCzpvFws3k/s1600/029.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5PDCK0bYazQ/VZGZWgAY9iI/AAAAAAAAHWY/huCzpvFws3k/s400/029.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
The back was teech too short but luckily we had leftover blocks. I love the look of pieced backs. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The wedding was in April, held at a windmill museum and my youngest was the ring bearer. Here are some family photos from the event.<br />

So it's only fitting that I actually started collecting red fabric to go along with everything else red in my life. I've been collecting some true red (aka red, red) fat quarters for a few years and wasn't sure what to do with the material. Unfortunately, it's impossible to get IU themed fabric (trust me, I've tried!) therefore I finally decided on a chevron quilt (similar to my <a href="http://polishquilter.blogspot.com/2009/11/finally-finish.html" target="_blank">Purdue chevron</a> from a few years ago.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VDboq-2bVW8/VYGqyre7QkI/AAAAAAAAHVY/wzfXA3w6XFE/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VDboq-2bVW8/VYGqyre7QkI/AAAAAAAAHVY/wzfXA3w6XFE/s400/003.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
My strips were different sizes which gave some visual edge to the quilt. I ended up with a baby size project and donated it the Boys and Girls Club Holiday Auction along with some other IU baby items. Unfortunately, I didn't get a great picture of the finsihed quilt. Oy. This one will have to do.<br />

I love log cabin quilts but I don't particularly love making them. They always seem to take longer to construct than I think they should!<br />
<br />
I decided to make an off center block and after laying them out a few ways, I went with this following pattern because I felt like it gave this traditional block a circular effect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vpriOTX9f7s/VYB1q5GXYjI/AAAAAAAAHTo/Q3hr4rLL_e0/s1600/186.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vpriOTX9f7s/VYB1q5GXYjI/AAAAAAAAHTo/Q3hr4rLL_e0/s320/186.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's the finished product. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sBKPU1RVNZo/VYB2DYPaKyI/AAAAAAAAHT4/DJSXHIeN_1w/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sBKPU1RVNZo/VYB2DYPaKyI/AAAAAAAAHT4/DJSXHIeN_1w/s320/003.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NKiBeW2T4aw/VYB2FnKUUPI/AAAAAAAAHUU/-QLJpwFhL-g/s1600/086.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NKiBeW2T4aw/VYB2FnKUUPI/AAAAAAAAHUU/-QLJpwFhL-g/s320/086.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I used a circular pattern to quilt it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9RC9dv0AQZw/VYB2EWAjDaI/AAAAAAAAHUI/aWanqfbfxUA/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9RC9dv0AQZw/VYB2EWAjDaI/AAAAAAAAHUI/aWanqfbfxUA/s320/004.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I brought this quilt to our winter retreat for show and tell. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Wb2mDL1nS7U/VYB2FSUV9nI/AAAAAAAAHUQ/NnNEr3t4X5A/s1600/044.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Wb2mDL1nS7U/VYB2FSUV9nI/AAAAAAAAHUQ/NnNEr3t4X5A/s320/044.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I wasn't the only one. A few others had finished their log cabins for show and tell too!<br />

The 2015 challenge is a tessellation quilt. Several of us had to look up the meaning of tessellation. Nataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05576984240606619902noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3763020667248274158.post-35880517231610059422014-10-07T16:46:00.001-04:002014-10-07T16:47:45.339-04:00Triple Rail FenceAnother baby quilt! I've done several this year but I think this is the last one for a while. Of course, I always think that but I'm always wrong. Which is just fine with me because I LOVE making baby quilts!<br />
<br />
This quilt is for my dear, dear friends from Lafayette. They are having baby #2, a little brother for Reed. For <a href="http://polishquilter.blogspot.com/2012/01/reeds-quilt.html" target="_blank">Reed's quilt</a>, they asked for something in brights which I did but I wasn't sold on the random star pattern I chose. So for this quilt, I went with a contemporary twist on a class pattern. Enter the triple rail fence....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VaxB43x8C_c/VDRKYKkQXjI/AAAAAAAAHPc/554PraWjEHs/s1600/195.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VaxB43x8C_c/VDRKYKkQXjI/AAAAAAAAHPc/554PraWjEHs/s1600/195.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The quilt I made in the requested aquas, oranges, and grays was inspired by a few pinned items from Pinterest: <br />

<br />
I needed this to be scrappy and I thought I had plenty of orange, aqua, and gray scraps. But my gray scraps were mostly solids, I didn't have nearly as much aqua as I thought, and my orange scraps were mostly used up making a log cabin quilt for the 2014 Covered in Threads Challenge. (More on that at a later date.) This meant I was forced to buy fabric. Poor me! :)<br />
<br />
I needed variety of fabric to achieve the scrappy look and of course I ended up with too much fabric. Which isn't normally a problem except that I cut all that fabric in to two inch strips. Doh! I wasn't sure what to do with all the leftover strips. (I only used about half of the cut strips for my front.) The situation got me thinking... how could I use the leftover strips on the back? Hmmmm.... <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-drrFkCUehhw/VDRJ4D3Zm7I/AAAAAAAAHPE/7i3S9PC2eng/s1600/198.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-drrFkCUehhw/VDRJ4D3Zm7I/AAAAAAAAHPE/7i3S9PC2eng/s1600/198.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I love how the back turned out (almost has much as I love the front!). It's pretty kick ass...<br />
<br />
If I do say so
myself.<br />
<br />
The Polack has been challenging me to make a two sided quilt and with this quilt, I can check that project off the list. (Bonus!) <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7SkQEAiDINs/VDRJ7OfwCBI/AAAAAAAAHPM/EVy8HmMvTLo/s1600/IMG_0840.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7SkQEAiDINs/VDRJ7OfwCBI/AAAAAAAAHPM/EVy8HmMvTLo/s1600/IMG_0840.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now we just need to find some time to get this quilt to it's intended. They are due any day now!<br />
<br />Nataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05576984240606619902noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3763020667248274158.post-62778681823414601802014-10-06T16:08:00.000-04:002014-10-07T16:08:44.611-04:00Runt RoweI know I've said it before but it bears repeating... I love making quilts for people who appreciate the blood (sometimes), sweat (figuratively), and tears (hopefully not) that go in to each individual work of art. I had made a baby quilt for the<a href="http://rowe-your-boat.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"> Rowe family</a> a few years back. They were so appreciative that when I found out they were expecting baby #2, I immediately asked if I could make a second quilt for them.<br />
<br />
I always want some sort of guidance in terms of color scheme and/or pattern/style when I'm giving away a quilt. They asked for something in their color scheme - pink and green with gray. Since they loved <a href="http://polishquilter.blogspot.com/2011/10/ryleights-quilt.html" target="_blank">Ryleigh's quilt</a>, I wanted to choose a pattern that was similar in style.<br />
<br />
I created several gray blocks with green and pink "sticks" in them. I wasn't sure about the layout so I tried two different options:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-raRlugHK1sQ/VDRFF7yC1bI/AAAAAAAAHOs/JWHEEXmlTDw/s1600/380.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-raRlugHK1sQ/VDRFF7yC1bI/AAAAAAAAHOs/JWHEEXmlTDw/s1600/380.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GHIr8HjeYHg/VDRFFYPTP3I/AAAAAAAAHOo/FMidl9xEVwo/s1600/381.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GHIr8HjeYHg/VDRFFYPTP3I/AAAAAAAAHOo/FMidl9xEVwo/s1600/381.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
I ended up going with option 2 and I'm happy with the end result. I especially love that I used scraps for this entire project. I didn't have to buy anything for it. I even pieced batting leftover from another project.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lBEWSTmkaUo/VDRFYSoGDwI/AAAAAAAAHO4/AKPKCT9yQjY/s1600/202.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lBEWSTmkaUo/VDRFYSoGDwI/AAAAAAAAHO4/AKPKCT9yQjY/s1600/202.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Baby 2 will be arriving sometime in the next few weeks and I can't wait to hear how much Ryleigh enjoys being a big sister. <br />
<br />

Fransson</a>. But I had never thought gsdgabout doing it until a few years ago when a friend said she was making one. She had been collecting solids for the project and offered to share some cuts with me. It was what I needed to get started.<br />
<br />
Here is Elizabeth's version:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bcu4zW2kr9U/VC6ctR1TnsI/AAAAAAAAHJ4/GLAwYNEtU_g/s1600/6a00e54ed03719883301a73d9d1c83970d-500wi.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bcu4zW2kr9U/VC6ctR1TnsI/AAAAAAAAHJ4/GLAwYNEtU_g/s1600/6a00e54ed03719883301a73d9d1c83970d-500wi.png" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Isn't it so pretty?! I worked on putting blocks together of the course of about 2 years. Every time I added a new shade of a solid to my stash, I cut some strips for this quilt. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-N8qx_3cvJ9M/VC6dC2Am5QI/AAAAAAAAHKA/i-i2jvYPx58/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-N8qx_3cvJ9M/VC6dC2Am5QI/AAAAAAAAHKA/i-i2jvYPx58/s1600/007.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ziargaG5Wo8/VC6dD6R4QwI/AAAAAAAAHKQ/MMkcqp8wtfU/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ziargaG5Wo8/VC6dD6R4QwI/AAAAAAAAHKQ/MMkcqp8wtfU/s1600/010.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jVPBJCDgNv0/VC6dEiigWwI/AAAAAAAAHKU/ct4rceLupfE/s1600/011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jVPBJCDgNv0/VC6dEiigWwI/AAAAAAAAHKU/ct4rceLupfE/s1600/011.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
When I went to lay it out, I was shocked at how big it was. I had trouble finding space in my house for the layout. The layout was tough... I wanted the colors to flow from one shade to another. I played and played around until I found a layout I liked. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z8F8ZkKAaD0/VC6dDcwuJaI/AAAAAAAAHKE/UPpYgAAtoeo/s1600/009.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z8F8ZkKAaD0/VC6dDcwuJaI/AAAAAAAAHKE/UPpYgAAtoeo/s1600/009.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here is the finished top:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P4jRxyuRruE/VC6dEyUc4mI/AAAAAAAAHKc/EhIHGLHe460/s1600/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P4jRxyuRruE/VC6dEyUc4mI/AAAAAAAAHKc/EhIHGLHe460/s1600/012.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Figuring out how to quilt it was another challenge. I ended up coming up with a pattern that I made up. I did geometric angles and filled them in as I went.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ybUB7s99Gpo/VC6dFV64_AI/AAAAAAAAHKk/aS3CPIPiL5w/s1600/193.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ybUB7s99Gpo/VC6dFV64_AI/AAAAAAAAHKk/aS3CPIPiL5w/s1600/193.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It took a long time.<br />
<br />
A really long time.<br />
<br />
A really, really long time. <br />
<br />
But I love how it turned out. You can see some of the quilting on this photo of the back: <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DHAWf-PzlaU/VC6dMS9henI/AAAAAAAAHMA/yDXQt3pFCZU/s1600/532.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DHAWf-PzlaU/VC6dMS9henI/AAAAAAAAHMA/yDXQt3pFCZU/s1600/532.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Taa-daa... the final project! I took photos from a few different angles so you could see the different blocks. Don't mind Freddy who is sitting in his favorite spot.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Vg0_JIqu7Ns/VC6dGBKM2NI/AAAAAAAAHKs/KEdGSFX4krg/s1600/485.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Vg0_JIqu7Ns/VC6dGBKM2NI/AAAAAAAAHKs/KEdGSFX4krg/s1600/485.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-imY8jzAIAH8/VC6dGm0ljRI/AAAAAAAAHK0/qesx1o1LPz4/s1600/486.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-imY8jzAIAH8/VC6dGm0ljRI/AAAAAAAAHK0/qesx1o1LPz4/s1600/486.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dmL2vn9GoIM/VC6dIW1RQGI/AAAAAAAAHLM/2N9NAoBy4iM/s1600/489.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dmL2vn9GoIM/VC6dIW1RQGI/AAAAAAAAHLM/2N9NAoBy4iM/s1600/489.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I definitely gaze fondly at this quilt when I'm hanging out in my bedroom doing laundry, watching tv, or prepping for the class at I teach. I'll see a block and I think "I love that block - it's my favorite!" And then I'll see another block and think, "Oh wait, THAT'S my favorite!" I definitely can't decided; they are all unique. (It sounds like I'm talking about my children.)<br />
<br />
Here are some blocks that I wanted to highlight:<br />

She is a bartender and when working, she wears t-shirts that are appropriate for the bar setting. She's must be pretty well known for her t-shirts because she even has customers that give her shirts to wear. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EYOzBy8bhgQ/VC6VJSNBdOI/AAAAAAAAHJk/wfzG55m-EYQ/s1600/192.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EYOzBy8bhgQ/VC6VJSNBdOI/AAAAAAAAHJk/wfzG55m-EYQ/s1600/192.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I got a kick out of some of the shirts. You'll have to zoom in to read some of them. I really enjoy t-shirt quilts more than I thought I would. I love the design process. My one problem with this quilt is that once I put the top together, it wasn't as big as I wanted. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jTkEkgSn-x8/VC6U6yoXgiI/AAAAAAAAHJY/YSpKHmDUSy8/s1600/509.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jTkEkgSn-x8/VC6U6yoXgiI/AAAAAAAAHJY/YSpKHmDUSy8/s1600/509.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I solved that problem by adding a piano key border. I think the end result was great.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vKGLJiLcHnI/VC6VI34TYBI/AAAAAAAAHJg/qCnk-508tKY/s1600/191.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vKGLJiLcHnI/VC6VI34TYBI/AAAAAAAAHJg/qCnk-508tKY/s1600/191.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Most importantly, I had another satisfied customer. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My brother and his wife are expecting their first baby in August. Kathryn sent me a few pins of quilts featuring whales and anchors and I was able to duplicate one pretty easily:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TXQhtO3vQls/U8l3j0zDYqI/AAAAAAAAHIw/Q2yA_eR-f_s/s1600/600c4b43f590ce3b42a67df2d4dbfc0a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TXQhtO3vQls/U8l3j0zDYqI/AAAAAAAAHIw/Q2yA_eR-f_s/s1600/600c4b43f590ce3b42a67df2d4dbfc0a.jpg" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of the quilt before wrapping it up. But here's a photo of Jake and Kathryn opening the gift. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5S5bBKFntMA/U8l20bmAiVI/AAAAAAAAHIo/FWYYgo8KlG4/s1600/029.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5S5bBKFntMA/U8l20bmAiVI/AAAAAAAAHIo/FWYYgo8KlG4/s1600/029.PNG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
And Kathryn was kind enough to send me a photo of the quilt, ready to go, in the nursery. I CAN'T WAIT TO MEET MY NEPHEW!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OrKMcfin8IA/U8l2njflpMI/AAAAAAAAHIY/Jda04hsMWYs/s1600/030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OrKMcfin8IA/U8l2njflpMI/AAAAAAAAHIY/Jda04hsMWYs/s1600/030.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Updated to add.... the other day, I saw this fabric at Jo-Ann's. I almost want to redo Kathryn's quilt just so I can add this to it! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wqR4ZV2O_9s/U8l2oK9w0HI/AAAAAAAAHIg/lJX2lT_FQyY/s1600/035.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wqR4ZV2O_9s/U8l2oK9w0HI/AAAAAAAAHIg/lJX2lT_FQyY/s1600/035.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>

This was a commission project that I made for someone who had collected t-shirts from several diabetes awareness events.<br />
<br />
I met with the owner when she handed off the t-shirts to me and I
asked for her thoughts on what she wanted. She shared this photo of another
quilt that she saw on Pinterest and she asked for something similar
with blues, using the front and back of the shirts.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HvdqV2t5QlY/U8ghv1Hy1EI/AAAAAAAAHG4/xALXSVPa6jg/s1600/f176fa4cd1d30bf39054e4b755a61354.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HvdqV2t5QlY/U8ghv1Hy1EI/AAAAAAAAHG4/xALXSVPa6jg/s1600/f176fa4cd1d30bf39054e4b755a61354.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
I have to say, I LOVED making this t-shirt quilt. I started by cutting down the shirts and then measuring the graphic of each shirt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UsR9_KRM3Xs/U8ghZO9wLDI/AAAAAAAAHGg/PQF5roB-5XY/s1600/002.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UsR9_KRM3Xs/U8ghZO9wLDI/AAAAAAAAHGg/PQF5roB-5XY/s1600/002.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Then I drew a diagram to figure out where everything would go. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rzv-34KWPHs/U8gg7MjDPzI/AAAAAAAAHGQ/K9B2atf_Yys/s1600/053.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rzv-34KWPHs/U8gg7MjDPzI/AAAAAAAAHGQ/K9B2atf_Yys/s1600/053.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It was a challenge to keep the front and backs of the t-shirt together while factoring in the colors of each shirt. Most of the shirts were gray and white so I wanted to spread out the colors. Cutting the shirts was nerve racking. I would double and triple check the measurements before cutting them. I was paranoid about cutting one too small and throwing off my whole diagram.<br />
<br />
I loved putting together the blocks. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tRiHCH7SFNs/U8ghYqvNVGI/AAAAAAAAHGY/dAZdz5IH-KY/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tRiHCH7SFNs/U8ghYqvNVGI/AAAAAAAAHGY/dAZdz5IH-KY/s1600/003.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
And here is the finished project. I was able to utilize all the shirts and make them fit. I'm so pleased with the outcome.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C7PyFRTxSsA/U8ghdHE7CbI/AAAAAAAAHGw/5J5oggBw_Pk/s1600/014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C7PyFRTxSsA/U8ghdHE7CbI/AAAAAAAAHGw/5J5oggBw_Pk/s1600/014.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>

I'm on a roll! I can't take much credit for this quilt though. It's a baby quilt for my husband's cousin's daughter who is expecting in August. (Did you catch that one?) My mother-in-law pieced and appliqued the top. I layered and quilted it and attached the binding.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xOtDt6g7Y78/U8gdMJKAh9I/AAAAAAAAHGE/Yt4ZXs1RWzE/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xOtDt6g7Y78/U8gdMJKAh9I/AAAAAAAAHGE/Yt4ZXs1RWzE/s1600/007.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
This lovely quilt is going in the mail tomorrow, just in time for the baby shower (which I can't attend) that is being held in Detroit.<br />

It was tough to give away but fortunately, it was for a good cause.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dHuRxuD-0yA/U8gkfWzC9iI/AAAAAAAAHHc/0poF8G9diQs/s1600/013.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dHuRxuD-0yA/U8gkfWzC9iI/AAAAAAAAHHc/0poF8G9diQs/s1600/013.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
My cousin, Aaron, and his lovely fiance, Jenn, are getting married in August so of course, I wanted to make them a lovely creation. I asked Jenn to pick out a color scheme and pattern. She definitely gravitated toward squares within squars. As for colors, she said that they liked blues.<br />
<br />
I had purchased a fat bundle of awesome <a href="http://www.windhamfabrics.net/php/fabricshop/fabricshop.php?a=sc&Category=645" target="_blank">Lotta Jansdotter Glimma</a> fabric during a visit to <a href="https://www.crimsontate.com/" target="_blank">Crimson Tate</a> in the fall so this project was the perfect excuse to cut in to the bundle. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kUdr-YpX1mw/U8gkLlJC_4I/AAAAAAAAHHI/51_zu-nJmyQ/s1600/044.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kUdr-YpX1mw/U8gkLlJC_4I/AAAAAAAAHHI/51_zu-nJmyQ/s1600/044.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The teal and gold mixed in with the blue reminded me Lake George in the
summer. (My grandparents had a home on Lake George and my cousin Aaron
and I spent many weekends together at Lake George.) <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yF6kv3OGihU/U8gkLu3uGbI/AAAAAAAAHHE/gPAebDJf2LI/s1600/046.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yF6kv3OGihU/U8gkLu3uGbI/AAAAAAAAHHE/gPAebDJf2LI/s1600/046.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's a photo on progress. I added several of my own scraps to make this a a bigger quilt. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jih0-VpWga4/U8gkQCAQQII/AAAAAAAAHHU/Jj2D4AIi7nY/s1600/015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jih0-VpWga4/U8gkQCAQQII/AAAAAAAAHHU/Jj2D4AIi7nY/s1600/015.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here are some photos of Aaron and Jenn at their wedding shower. It was held at Lake George on Independence Day weekend. (Check out the blue and red quilt used to hold the presents. I made that quilt - Anchor's Away - for another family member.)<br />

Her mom had been sneaking t-shirts away from her over the years and asked my mother-in-law and I to put them together in to a quilt for Emily. Bobbie and I jumped at the chance. Emily is such a beautiful, strong, kind, and funny person; we were honored to make her a t-shirt quilt.<br />
<br />
We started the project this winter, during a quilting retreat at my house. Bobbie put together most of the top and I finished the top, did the backing, and quilted it. Bobbie then did the binding.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-peglH0SBKSs/U6QzcalF7kI/AAAAAAAAHFU/mztjGagY8zc/s1600/016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-peglH0SBKSs/U6QzcalF7kI/AAAAAAAAHFU/mztjGagY8zc/s1600/016.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is the finished project. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-frAjP4MiJOo/U6QzkJ57klI/AAAAAAAAHFs/YNdXK0LDSCk/s1600/071.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-frAjP4MiJOo/U6QzkJ57klI/AAAAAAAAHFs/YNdXK0LDSCk/s1600/071.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The back was particularly special because it featured a t-shirt that Emily and her grandfather (Bobbie's brother) designed for a fishing tournament they were in. (Uncle Tom passed away a few years ago and we all miss him. We especially miss seeing him and Emily together. They had a special bond.) <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AIHCwXNDNUE/U6QzjcTvtGI/AAAAAAAAHFg/qRBVNoc9yDA/s1600/072.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AIHCwXNDNUE/U6QzjcTvtGI/AAAAAAAAHFg/qRBVNoc9yDA/s1600/072.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
This t-shirt makes me laugh so I had to include a special photo! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We traveled to Hazel Park, Michigan this weekend to attend Emily's graduation. Bobbie and I were excited to give her the quilt. She LOVED it. It make her cry which of course made us cry. Her mom was thrilled and insisted on hanging it up to display it during the party. <br />

Emily is headed to Michigan State this fall where I am confident she will have a successful four years of college as a Spartan.Nataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05576984240606619902noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3763020667248274158.post-11473607725646763562014-06-20T09:12:00.000-04:002014-06-20T09:12:34.873-04:00FragmentsOne of the great things about quilt camp at Camp Tecumseh is the fact that they always host a vendor who sets up a mini quilt store for the quilters to use in the lobby of the building. The quilt shops will have fabric, books, fabric, notions, and more fabric. It's fun to go shopping at 3 am. Or if you're in the middle of a project and you run out of something (or need additional fabric), it's nice to walk up a set of stairs and have lots of options to help complete your project.<br />
<br />
At the January camp more than two years ago, I came across a fat quarter bundle that I fell in love with. I bought the bundle and it sat in my sewing room, untouched, for about year. I finally found a project for the bundle and started putting it together. Because it was an "extra" project - as in it wasn't designated for anyone - I worked on this project in pieces, finally putting the top together in April. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cW1bsUGcV5U/U6QvHRaJEGI/AAAAAAAAHEw/1dPErIsiZ8o/s1600/040.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cW1bsUGcV5U/U6QvHRaJEGI/AAAAAAAAHEw/1dPErIsiZ8o/s1600/040.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I wasn't sure what I was going to do with the quilt but when I received an invitation to my dad's, wife's, granddaughters high school graduation open house, I knew I wanted to finish the quilt for her. (I guess that makes her my step-niece?) I was able to layer and quilt this project in a weekend so that I could finish it in time for her party.<br />
<br />

Tenacity is pretty cool kid and she totally deserves this beautiful quilt. <br />

<br />
<br />
It was hard to part with it - especially since I loved the fat quarter bundle so much - but I'm happy Tenacity was the recipient. Especially after receiving this text from her:<br />

She'll make a great Jaguar!Nataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05576984240606619902noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3763020667248274158.post-85571421059708074692014-04-01T16:38:00.000-04:002014-04-01T16:38:31.016-04:00The Stars AlignWhen I first jumped on the Pinterest bandwagon, I saw <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/238761217714341632/" target="_blank">a quilt block</a> that I loved, loved, loved from <a href="http://ellisonlane.com/2011/04/starflower-block-tutorial.html" target="_blank">Ellison Lane Quilts</a>. I finally got around to making my own quilt with this starflower block. (Which is more than I can say for most of the other quilts I've pinned!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2jzPnPJYloM/Uzsc0QbSVKI/AAAAAAAAG_U/-5I8RQ8zoVs/s1600/056.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2jzPnPJYloM/Uzsc0QbSVKI/AAAAAAAAG_U/-5I8RQ8zoVs/s1600/056.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<i>(I just looked at the above photo and realized how awesome my piecing looks. Go me! I feel like a grown up quilter.)</i><br />
<br />
I made several blocks and laid out the quilt. Of course, it's never quite as big as you want. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QoeAy_rUUj8/Uzscm58DlHI/AAAAAAAAG-8/t8os5FvE0FU/s1600/011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QoeAy_rUUj8/Uzscm58DlHI/AAAAAAAAG-8/t8os5FvE0FU/s1600/011.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Luckily, I had plenty of the white on white fabric that I was able to use for sashing and a border. I love the floating stars affect of this quilt. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-43x3SnT1r0c/UzsczcEkl2I/AAAAAAAAG_M/00xNC0g0H1Y/s1600/049.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-43x3SnT1r0c/UzsczcEkl2I/AAAAAAAAG_M/00xNC0g0H1Y/s1600/049.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm donating this quilt to a cancer survivor walk in honor of a friend from work. So it's only fitting that I took a photo of this beautiful quilt on campus. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
One last photo.... I completed this project over spring break. My mom was visiting me and although I only had one finish for the week; she had THREE. Go mom! Here's our collage of finished projects:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fzbSVT_qh-I/UzsczLiICXI/AAAAAAAAG_Q/b2JUEVJ1cWY/s1600/036.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fzbSVT_qh-I/UzsczLiICXI/AAAAAAAAG_Q/b2JUEVJ1cWY/s1600/036.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I did spend a good amount of time over spring break working on a massive quilting project. The quilting is now completed - yay! - but I'm finishing the binding. I can't wait to show you that quilt.<br />

We made blocks out of black and white material and though my blocks sat untouched for several years, I finally put them together for a <a href="http://polishquilter.blogspot.com/2013/07/black-and-white-block-exchange.html" target="_blank">quilt for my cousin's graduation.</a><br />
<br />
Those blocks are still in circulation! My mom also did the exchange. She used eight of her 20 blocks for a quilt several years ago. When we found out my cousin (a different one; I have A LOT of cousins!) was getting married and wanted a quilt in black and white, she pulled out her remaining 12 blocks for us to put together. We added some color for pop. I call this North by Midwest.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Fhpb4S_XqD4/UzBaRZplw4I/AAAAAAAAG-k/3yaY-HOQGps/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Fhpb4S_XqD4/UzBaRZplw4I/AAAAAAAAG-k/3yaY-HOQGps/s1600/005.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I think we've finally used all of our black and white blocks.<br />
<br />
And since I have neglected my personal blog for so long, I thought I'd throw in this photo from the wedding. It was a fun night.<br />

You'll recall that the 2013 challenge was to create a polka dot quilt. Last weekend we gathered at my house for a few days of sewing during which we showed our polka dot projects. It's always fun to see what people come up with:<br />

We also decided on our 2014 challenge. After several suggestions and a group vote, we decided that our next project will be a log cabin quilt.<br />
<br />
This will be the sixth year we have a challenge. I love that we've been able to keep the tradition going.<br />
